2012 Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph Camp Report
by Dinos Trigonis
(October 16, 2012)

 The 7th annual Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph Camp presented by Ball is Life was held recently last weekend (October 13-14) at the MAC Sports Center (Lewisville TX/Dallas area). This sold-out event featured 120 top 2015 and 2016 players (along with a few talented 2017 players) from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas and Virginia.  The camp began with an excellent skills work-out by Tyler Relph and continued with four competitive rounds of games that showcased the quality of the young talent present.  Media/scouts on hand includedDinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press, Nothing But Net Magazine & Hoop Scoop), Patrick Stanwood (Nothing But Net Magazine & Hot100Hoops.com), Alan Branch (TexasBoysBasketball.com), Glenn Smith (MetroplexHoops.com), Jamie Palmer (Deep South Hoops & Reebok Breakout Challenge), Brad Hensley (BallisLife.com) and Michael Crouch (APEX/Athlete Profile Exchange).  The camp was heavy on quality “bigs” as well as athletic wings with size.

The top 50 players were selected by the camp staff and media present and were showcased in the two “cream of the crop” games held at the conclusion of the event. 6’8” soph Elijah Thomas(Rowlett TX) was a force all camp long and his weekend performance  earned him Camp Most Outstanding Player honors. In the Top 25 Game it was Triple A Academy’s 6’3” soph King McClure’s17 points/6 rebs/3 assists that sparked the Black squad over the White squad 96-83. 6’2” soph Andrew Dotson(Martin/Arlington TX) tied McClure for team-high in scoring for the Black by adding 17 points of his own. 6’5” frosh Terrance Ferguson(Flower Mound TX) had a break-out performance in the Top 25 Game for the White squad by pouring in a game-high 23 points. For their outstanding play in the Top 25 Game, McClure and Ferguson were named co-MVPs of that contest.

Below, we will highlight the players that were selected to the Top 25 game as well as list Top 50 Game selections and other “honorable mention” camp players.

 Top 25 Cream of the Crop Game Selections
(in alphabetical order)

* Isaiah Brown 5’10” 2016 Flower Mound (Flower Mound TX)
Quick playmaker with solid handle.

* Andrew Dotson 6’2” 2015 Martin (Arlington TX)
Crafty scorer matched King McClure for a team-high 17 points to lead the Black squad over the White team 96-83. This fiery competitor has great court savvy and a high basketball IQ.

* Tyler Davis 6’9” 2015 Liberty (Frisco TX)
Burly and very physical postman is a bull in the paint and his soft hands allow him to be consistent scorer on the block. Davis has the size, work-ethic and motor to develop into a high-major impact player. Born in San Jose CA, this talented PF has called Plano TX home since he was 14.

* Austin Evans 6’5” 2015 Green Hill (Addison TX)
Smooth lefty with an accurate perimeter stroke reportedly has Ivy league caliber grades.

* Terrance Ferguson 6’5” 2016 Home School (Flower Mound TX)
One of the surprises of camp, Ferguson has a chance to skyrocket up the national charts once more and more scouts and media get exposed to his variety of skills. Reminds me of a young Josh Childress (Stanford/NBA) and his long-range perimeter stroke was an impressive sight all weekend long. His gangly physique and huge feet make him a prospect nowhere close to peaking for a long time. Ferguson’s 23 points in Top 25 game (including several deep “threes”) forced people to take notice that he belongs among the nation’s best in 2016.

* Admon Gilder 6’2” 2015 Madison (Dallas TX)
Strong wing is a defensive stopper with a solid mid-range jump shot.

* Dante Hales 6'10” 2015 Wilson (Dallas TX)
Very raw C has tremendous length and the potential to evolve into a coveted post prospect.

* Harrison Henderson 6’7” 2016 Triple A Academy (Dallas TX)
Son of former Duke star Phil Henderson, this long swingman is oozing with potential and his development must be tracked by mid-high majors.

* DJ Hogg 6’7” 2015 Plano West (Plano TX)

Finesse hybrid-forward moves really well and has the foundation of a nice perimeter jump shot.

 * Trey Knight 6’3” 2015 Round Rock (Round Rock TX)
Athletic off-guard moves well without the ball and shoots the rock with accuracy off the bounce.

 * Ka’Juan Malveau 5’10” 2015 Everman (Fort Worth TX)
Fast PG has ability to beat defenders off the dribble.

* King McClure 6’3” 2015 Triple A Academy (Dallas TX)

Skilled and athletic combo-guard was clearly the top backcourt prospect here, reminding me of a young Anthony Marshall (UNLV). Love his basketball instincts, willingness to defend and crafty ball handling skills. Big time scorer can fill the bucket in a variety of ways. King’s17 points in Top 25 game as well as terrific all-around play earned him co-MVP honors of that contest.

 * Cameron McGriff 6’5” 2016 South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie TX)
Proto-type athletic SF can do offensive damage from both inside the paint and out on the perimeter. Scored 16 points in Top 25 Game.

* Matthew McQuaid 6’4” 2015 Duncanville (Duncanville TX)
Bouncy wing with legitimate 3-point stroke. Love his motor and competitiveness.

* Jalon Miller 6’6” 2015 Seagoville (Seagoville TX)
Strong rebounder is active in the paint as well as mobile in transition.

* Brandon Moore 6’5” 2015 Bishop Anne (Lancaster TX)

Active wing is a tenacious defender that runs the floor well.

 * Keoddrick Polk 5’11” 2015 Wyatt (Fort Worth TX)
Speedy ballhander can handle defensive pressure well.

* Mason Riggins 6’7” 2015 Whitewright (Whitewright TX)
Blue collar PF plays hard, is athletic and his productive rebounding in the paint is an asset to any team he suits up for.

* Herard Schneider 6’10” 2016 Boyd (McKinney TX)
Haiti import is extremely long to say the least and he uses his length with enormous effectiveness as a shotblocker and rebounder. Has to be a Top 20 caliber national prospect in the 2016 class. Great upside!

* Tyler Singleton 6’1” 2015 Triple A Academy (Dallas TX)
Scrappy off-guard is a harassing defender.

* Derrick Staten III 6’0” 2015 Cypress Woods (Houston TX)
Heady combo-guard makes good decisions.

 * Elijah Thomas 6’8” 2015 Rockwall/Rowlett (Rowlett TX)
Coming off a strong outing at the USA U16 mini-camp in Colorado Springs CO the weekend before, Elijah also looked very good in Lewisville. Cut out of the same physical cloth as an Elton Brand, Thomas rebounds with authority, scores with physicality inside and has the intensity necessary to be a tenacious defender. Elite national recruit contributed 12 points/8 in Top 25 game.

* Gilbert Thomas 6’6” 2016 C.E. King (Houston TX)
Very promising young small forward is active around the rim and rebounds at a high clip. Gilbert’s 13 points capped a fine weekend performance.

* Jeremy Trudeau 6’4” 2016 Conquering Word (Marrero LA)
Very athletic wing is a Lousiana-style slashing scorer that attacks the rim with aggression.

* Kody Wilson 6’4” 2014 McKinney (McKinney TX)
Very young junior is a bona-fide D-I prospect that makes plays on both ends of the floor.
