Future West Coast Stars On Display at 2007 
Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp: Part II

The 7th annual Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp was held at Cabrillo HS (Long Beach CA) this past weekend (October 6-7), featuring 180-plus top 2010 and 2011 players (along with a few talented 2012 ballers as well as one impressive 2013 playmaker) from California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Washington, Tennessee and Georgia.  The camp began with the customary terrific instruction by former NCAA D-I and NBA assistant coach Dave Miller and continued with four competitive rounds of games that showcased the depth of the young talent present.

Media/scouts present included event director Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press), event director Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Frank Burlison (Long Beach Press-Telegram & Scouthoops.com), Ronnie Flores (Student Sports Magazine), Greg Hicks (Scouthoops.com), Joel Francisco (SoCal’s Finest Recruiting Service & ESPN.com), Gerry Freitas (Hoop Review), Dave Keefer & Dave Rogahn (CaliforniaPreps.com), Lee Hubbard (NorCalPreps.com), Alan Utter (Hoop Scoop) and Nick Koza (Sportsamp.com).

 

The camp’s top 50 players were selected by the camp staff and media present and were showcased in the two “cream of the crop” games held at the conclusion of the event.  In part I of this report, we highlighted the players that were selected to the Top 25 game including the nation's #1 soph 6'10" Jeremy Tyler (San Diego/San Diego CA). Here in part II, we will focus on the Top 50 game selections (listed by alphabetical order):

Top 50 “Cream of the Crop” Game Selections

 

Travon Abraham                5’9”     So.      Sacramento (Sacramento CA) 

Quick point is elusive off the dribble and is a pesky defender.

 

Joshua Amaya                    6’11”  So.      Mesquite (Chandler AZ)

Big wide-body is a physical post that is active on the boards and has the potential to develop into a solid D-I center prospect.

 

Michael Avery                      6’3”     8th        Ascension Lutheran MS (Torrance CA) 

Very skilled 8th grader has a tremendous feel for the game at this stage of his basketball career.

Julian Benarouche              6’2”     So.      Pacific Hills (Los Angeles CA) 

New Roads (Santa Monica) transfer is a heady combo-guard that knows how to score via a soft floater when driving in the paint.

 

Jahari Brown                       6’3”     Fr.       Salesian (Richmond CA)

Talented wing has impressive perimeter skills.

 

Jonathan Conley                6’5”     So.      Littlerock (Littlerock CA)  

Hard-working power-forward plays the game with a passion and gives you every ounce of effort he has in him.  Conley scored 11 points (on 5/6 shooting) here.

Jordan Didier                      6’7”     So.      
St. Mary’s (Phoenix AZ)

California native (attended Villa Park HS as freshman) is a long and agile forward that has nice slashing scoring ability and is very active on the boards (game high 11 rebounds here).

Tim Douglas                        5’10”  So.      
Artesia (Lakewood CA)

Small, but crafty point has ability to get to the rim and finish.  Mayfair (Lakewood CA) transfer also has a very solid handle and accurate three-point stroke.  Had 11 points/5 assists here.

 

Jamal Ford                           6’4”     So.      
Sacred Heart (San Francisco CA)

Long swingman attacks the basket with authority and plays hard baseline-to-baseline.  Excellent rebounder (7 boards here).

Tyler Funk                            5’11”  So.      
Orange Lutheran (Orange CA)

Extremely savvy point has very good court vision and precision passing skills.

 

Austin Gage                         6’1”     So.      
Salpointe (Tucson AZ)

Outstanding student is a sharp-shooting combo-guard that scored 10 points (including 2 “threes”) in this game).

 

Lawrence Hampton           5’9”     So.      
Ironwood Ridge
 (Tucson AZ)

PG jet is quick off the dribble and has excellent ability to find open teammates (dished out 5 assists here).

 

Andre Hatchett                    6’3”     So.      
Mountain View (Tucson AZ) 

Athletic wing plays sound defense and is a nice slashing scorer.

Dion Hudson                       5’10”  So.      
Bishop Amat (La Puente CA)

Strong point plays excellent defense (3 steals) and is a dependable ballhandler that can run a squad.

 

Terrence Ingram                 5’11”  So.      
Hoover (San Diego CA) 

Quick PG is a solid defender and adequate ballhandler.

 

Justin Kaminski                  6’5”     Fr.       
Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos CA)  

Promising power-forward with a size 17 shoe has really improved over the past year.  Excellent student.

 

Nick Kaspar                         6’4”     So.      
Dana Hills (Dana Point CA)

Strong and physical wing plays with confidence and has nice perimeter range on his jump shot.

Dennis Kramer                    6’8”     So.      La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad CA)

Good-looking face-up power-forward moves well and has a body that has plenty of room to fill out.  Father was a professional player in Europe and older brother Josh played at Holy Cross.

 

Marek La Gorce-Ross       6’3”     So.      Crossroads (Santa Monica CA)

Scoring off-guard with a “basic” all-around game is not flashy but always productive (10 points/7 rebounds here).

 

Troy Leaf                              6’2”     So.      Foothills Christian (El Cajon CA)

Excellent lead guard has great feel for the game and can really score.  Excellent student.

 

Keith Miller                           6’5”     So.      Dominguez (Compton CA)         

Ribet Academy transfer is a long lefty with crafty scoring skills.  Intriguing potential.

 

James Moore                       6’6”     So.      Jesuit (Carmichael CA)  

Agile combo-forward is quick in transition and is a promising rebounder and defender.

 

Nick Paulson                       6’0”     So.      La Sierra (Riverside CA)

Solid point makes few mistakes and can run a team.

 

Jordan Pitre                         6’3”     So.      Sacramento (Sacramento CA)

Cerebral off-guard has an excellent basketball IQ and is strong when taking the ball to the cup.

 

Xavier Roy                           6’2”     Fr.       San Diego (San Diego CA) 

Strong wing has nice ability to score off the dribble.

 

Keith Shamburger             5’10”  So.      La Verne Lutheran (La Verne CA)

High-scoring point can really knock perimeter jump shots.  Dominguez HS transfer scored 11 points in this game.

 

Cliff Sims                              6’4”     So.      Compton (Compton CA)

Athletic wing has impressive physique and is starting to show the confidence of a bona-fide double-digit per game scorer.  Outstanding rebounder (8 boards) just missed the top game.

 

Kyle Travis                           5’10”  So.      Doughtery Valley (San Ramon CA)

Assertive lead guard and legitimate 3-point threat was the game high scorer (15 points) in this game.

 

Bryce Thompson               6’0”     Fr.       Salesian (Richmond CA)

Lefty combo-guard is a smooth offensive performer with an above-average handle and the ability to create his own shot.

 

Stephen Topercer              6’0”     Fr.       Horizon (Scottsdale AZ)

Tough-as-nails lead guard plays with poise and has an accurate outside stroke.

 

Judd Welfringer                  6’4”     Fr.       Desert Ridge (Chandler AZ)

Scrappy wing forward has underrated perimeter scoring skills.

 

Kareem Wheeler                 5’11”  Fr.       Wheeler (Marrieta GA)

Fast point has nice ability to beat defenders off the dribble.
