Fogg Is Arizona-bound
(May 19, 2008)
6’3” senior Kyle Fogg (Brea-Olinda/Brea CA) officially visited the University of Arizona on Sunday and Monday and when Wildcat head coach Lute Olson offered Fogg a scholarship, it didn’t take long for the high scoring combo-guard to accept. Fogg picked the Wildcats over interest from the likes of Providence, St. John’s, Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, UNLV, Fresno State, San Francisco, San Diego State, Boise State, Hawaii, Oregon State, Colorado, San Diego, Santa Clara, New Orleans and UC-Irvine.
Kyle averaged 24.9 ppg this past season for Brea-Olinda – shooting an impressive 53% from the field and 41% from the 3-point arc. Fogg scored 30 or more points nine times including a season high 36 points against Villa Park. Kyle (who averaged 8.6 rpg and 4.4 apg for the Brea- Olinda Wildcats which ironically will also be his future college mascot) also had a incredible 29 point/20 board/12 assist performance against Marina (a school Lute Olson once coached at during the 1960s) and a 25 point effort against Anaheim Canyon and 6’2” senior Jerime Anderson (UCLA signee) – a player that Fogg will hook up with again during the next few years in the Pac-10.
This spring Fogg earned national respect playing with Long Beach CA-based Belmont Shore squad. Kyle led Belmont Shore to the 2008 Las Vegas Easter Classic title – scoring 30 points in the championship game win over the Las Vegas Prospects and being named by Clark Francis (Hoop Scoop) and Van Coleman (Hoopmasters) as the un-official tourney MVP. Fogg would also lead Belmont Shore to the 2008 Las Vegas Spring Showcase title game as well as turning in impressive efforts at the Real Deal on the Hill (Fayetteville AR) and Arizona Cactus Classic (Tucson AZ).
Last summer an unknown but late-blooming Orange County guard was watching from a distance as Arizona signee and the nation’s #1 senior Brandon Jennings led Belmont Shore to the 2007 Rbk Summer Championships title and a #2 national club ranking. This summer, after an impressive spring that saw his own college stock soar in that same Belmont Shore uniform, Fogg will join Jennings in Tucson in the same Arizona back-court.
