Top 50 All-Star Selections

This summer’s Fullcourt Press All-West Camp was held on July 11-13 at the new HAX Hangar in Hawthorne CA.  The 11th version of the camp attracted 300-plus of the West Coast’s top prospects including players from California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi and Georgia.

Media/scouts present include Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press & Hoop Scoop), Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Frank Burlison (Long Beach Press-Telegram & Scouthoops.com), Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Patrick Stanwood (Hoop Scoop & Hoop Masters), Greg Hicks (Scouthoops.com), Ronnie Flores (Student-Sports.com), Gerry Freitas (Hoop Review), Matt Rodriguez (BallisLife.com), Nick Koza (SportsAmp.com), Dave Nahabedian (Networx), Dave Keefer & Dave Rogahn (California Preps), Alan Utter and Bob Jacoby (Hoop Scoop) and Lee Hubbard (NorCal Preps) while colleges coaches on hand included Ben Howland (UCLA), Tim Floyd (USC), Lorenzo Romar (Washington), Lon Kruger (UNLV), Craig Robinson (Oregon State), Jim Boylan (Utah), Steve Fisher (San Diego State), Mark Fox (Nevada), Karl Hobbs (George Washington), Billy Grier (San Diego), Steve Cleveland (Fresno State), Bob Burton (Cal State Fullerton), Tom Asbury (Pepperdine), Bob Williams (UC-Santa Barbara), Bobby Braswell (Cal State Northridge), Gary Stewart (UC-Davis), Jim Wooldridge (UC-Riverside), Brian Katz (Sacramento State), Mike Adras (Northern Arizona) and assistants from Arizona, Stanford, Washington State, Cal, Arizona State, Oregon, Louisville, Maryland, Marquette, Boston College, Gonzaga, West Virginia, Colorado, Air Force, UTEP, SMU, Colorado State, St. Mary’s and many others.  The level of talent on display again reaffirmed this event as the top regional camp in the West.  

Below are the 25 players that were selected to the top cream of the crop game.  In a hard fought game, the Black squad beat the White team 107-98.

Crafty and efficient scorer can do so in a multitude of ways.   Rasual Butler-type wing forward has intriguing potential.

Active wing is an underrated rebounder.

Serra (San Diego CA)  

Wide rebounder can put the ball on the floor as well as finish on the block.

Stoneridge Prep (Simi Valley CA)

Strong lefty has really improved his perimeter stroke.

Burly swingman has underrated scoring skills.

Long and bouncy wing forward has huge feet and a knack for finding the bottom of the twine.

Fast point is attracting WCC and Big West interest.

Vista Murrieta (Murrieta CA)

Very improved PG has a great three-point stroke and a very underrated cross-over dribble.

Santa Monica (Santa Monica CA)

Solid wing forward has a nose for the ball and the scoring skills to be an offensive threat defenses must take serious.  Very good student.

 

Nathan Gibbs                      6’7”     2008

Desoto (Dallas TX)

Strong and physical post player has soft hands that allow him to score with regularity on the block.  Might attend prep school and re-classify to 2009.

 

Da’Shawn Gomez              6’1”     2009

Inglewood (Inglewood CA)
Savvy combo-guard had an excellent camp – showing off a multitude number of scoring skills.

Jordan (Long Beach CA)  

Athletic wing-forward is a pesky defender and solid rebounder.

Carl Hauke                           6’3”     2008

Massanutten Military Academy (Woodstock VA) 

San Diego native is a strong defender that can knock down perimeter shots.

Mark Hills                              5’9”     2009

University City (San Diego CA) 

Jet PG has a “yo-yo” handle and range out to the three-point stripe.

Teandre Hubbard              6’2”     2009

Sacred Heart (San Francisco CA)

Cerebral combo-guard plays like a veteran and has nice overall court instincts.

Mojave (North Las Vegas NV)

“Stretch” is an excellent defender that is active on the glass and an underrated slashing scorer.

Garrett Jefferson                6’3”     2009

Mayfair (Lakewood CA)   

One of the West Coast’s most underrated wings, Jefferson has terrific scoring skills as well as the quickness to be a superb defender.

Ocean View (Huntington Beach CA)

Pesky defender is long and athletic and an effective slashing scorer.

Miss Elite Christian Academy (Jackson MS)

Carson CA native is a quick PG with an improved three-point shot.

Dominick LaCoste             6’1”     2009

Dominguez (Compton CA)

Smooth point has a dependable handle and an underrated perimeter stroke.  Excellent student.

Donley Minor                       6’1”     2009

Leuzinger (Lawndale CA) 

Scrappy and hard-working combo-guard is athletic and makes plays at both ends.  Verbum Dei transfer is a very underrated 2009 West Coast prospect.

Norvell Pelle                        6’8”     2011

Dominguez (Compton CA)  

Long interior player is young and oozing with potential.

Putnam City (Oklahoma City OK)

Very athletic wing will flush it if given a step.

Michael Vantrimpont         7’0”     2008

Very long center with tons of potential signed a scholarship grant-in-aid with Long Beach State this summer and will be a 49’er this fall.
